So, this week marks the 500th birthday of John Calvin, something which, given the preoccupations of this blog, was something I did not think should pass unmarked.
Happy Birthday John.
You turned your world upside down, and we stand in your shadow.
Or at least we did. Some say it is time to walk out on our own adventure.
To make our own reformation.
Praying for patience and grace on our own modern versions of Michael Servetus.

You can listen to a radio programme called Beyond Belief here that reflects on the enduring legacy of Calvin- half an hour of theology and reflection- well worth a listen.
Dear Chris, stumbled across your site as I keep an eye on whose writing about Calvin at the moment. I am reading and blogging Calvin’s Institutes during 2009. I am about half way through now and finding it really challenging and enriching.
Thanks for the other posts – I really enjoyed the “we’re not laughing” song and the Chris Moyles clip. It is encouraging to hear someone who is normally so negative appreciate a church service.
I’m also living in Scotland, just north of Dundee. I guess you would call me a conservative baptist, but I followed Jason Clark’s website for a while to try and understand the emergent movement more. I’ll be back to check out your next posts.
Keep working and witnessing for Christ.
