It’s the fire, I am convinced. We spent Christmas with my mother and made a fire on the chilly nights. I don’t think anything else has quite the power to cause everyone to cease what they are doing and stare at the flames, as fire of any kind. There is something about the scent and the crackling too.

I love a fire- the smell of wood smoke on a cold day is perhaps my favourite smell of all time!
