Happy New Year!

All saints eve sky lantern

Another year.

May 2013 bring to you many good things.

It is nearly 2AM and we are enjoying some peace after a lovely evening with friends old and new. We let off a couple of sky lanterns, one to remember the year gone and one to express hope for the year to come. We also used this simple ritual;

1.

We stand on the threshold of another year

The old one is gone and the new one is still mystery

And we offer you our prayers

We watch them rise to you

2.

Last year was full of good things;

Friendship, laughter, music, art

New experiences,

New achievements

For these things we offer you our praises

We watch them rise to you

3.

For some of us the year gone by has had times of great difficulty

The loss of a people who are dear to us

Life has darkness as well as light

So we give to you all those memories-

All those times when doubt, fear and pain were close at hand

We watch them rise to you

4.

The future belongs to you Lord

Each breath, each heartbeat

So we give you our hopes

We offer you our projects

We offer you our dreams

We watch them rise to you

This Fragile Tent Christmas card, 2009…

I’m going to take a few days break from blogging. If I can. No-one reads blogs at Christmas anyway- we have far better things to do!

Like most of us, I have been busy- cleaning shovelling snow and grit, and wrapping.

We were out carol singing yesterday, and I really enjoyed it- it has become a Christmas tradition that is increasingly important to me- we take out trumpets and trombones and pianos that most of us only play once a year, and we visit some old folks homes and sing…

It is such a blessing to give- and so may you find much blessing…

And to all of you who read this blog, may this Christmas be wonderful.

And may you discover Emmanuel. God with us.

Above all the neon blaze

And electric flicker

May you still

Be blessed

By starlight

Amongst all the old recycled songs

And the fake sleighbells

May there be a moment

When peace

Falls like perfect

Snowflakes

But when we’ve overfed

And over drank

When all the gifts are given

Let us remember

That the child

Became a man

Hope rises…

We are planning (and I use the word loosely) a thing. An Aoradh thing. Around an Advent theme. We will be supporting Simon and CLAN as they sell some Christmas trees and raise some money for the play park.

It will be based on the West Bay in Dunoon, on the 12th/13th December. We will have a big tent, mulled wine, thinking stations, and… (we hope) be getting people to decorate sky lanterns for a mass launch.

Assuming we get permission.

And assuming it is not very wet.

Or windy.

So come along- let hope rise to faith.

We tried out one of the lanterns this evening in house group- so for those of you out looking for meteor showers, what you saw was not one of them. Nor was it an alien space ship.

It floated into a tree, then rose high in the direction of Helensburgh, where it was no doubt shot out of the sky over Faslane naval base.

We wrote prayers on it- and watching the thing rise gracefully into the sky then disappear into the clouds was wonderful.
